Covid-19: Update (30th March)
Dear Andover Athletics Club Members,
Following the further restrictions on movement put in place by the UK Government, UKA and the Home Country Athletics Federations have made the following updates:
1. Extending the suspension of all athletics activity in England to the 31 May. This suspension includes all organised athletics activity in the UK, including all competitions, formal club activities, running groups, and all Education activity (coach, official, teacher). Wessex League and SAL meetings in April & May are cancelled / postponed.
2. Strengthening our position on coaching activity – We are now mandating that all physical coaching ceases, and only be conducted via virtual means during this period. Bringing groups of people together to train, however small, can no longer be permitted under the strict ‘Stay at home’ measures implemented by the UK Government.
As Chairman, I have been in contact with the coaches and the committee.
Where possible, athletes and runners at all levels are encouraged to maintain their own personal fitness and keep active during this time, while following government guidelines about safe distance and safe exercise environments. It has been heartening to read and see that many of you are remaining active and that your coaches have been providing you with some activities to be getting on with independently. I know that this may not be possible for all, particularly for those in the throwing and jumping disciplines. Your coach may contact you directly if they have any plans for your on-going training.
In due time, the Coronavirus emergency will pass and we will be able to establish a new normal. In order that the club can be there for your return, we still need you to renew your membership: I see that many already have. Although you can no longer collect or return your form to the clubhouse, you can download, complete and submit your paperwork to me at email@example.com . The form will be available from the website. Please also send a copy to your coach (details at https://andoverathleticsclub.com/training-group-info). Payment can be made by Bank Transfer as detailed on the Membership Form. As there are no forthcoming competitions, you may not get confirmation of your Unique Registration Number for a while.
We recognise that athletics (and sport in general) is more than just being physically active. Andover Athletic Club is also a family. Whilst we cannot meet in person, we can be there for each other through these difficult times. We may not have money to spare or services / produce to distribute. But we can offer care and compassion, a friendly ear to hear or eyes to read of the problems of others. I'd like the membership to know that we're all there for each other. Please take this opportunity to relax and maintain fitness for the season when it returns. It is still important to get outside and enjoy the improving weather.
England Athletics will continue to review and monitor government advice and will provide detailed updates on the impact to our sport in the coming weeks. We will contact you as and when the club re-opens.
If you have any concerns, athletics or otherwise, that you think we might be able to help with, please drop me an email.
Tom Evison - Chairman

All of us in our day to day lives are in some way responsible for aspects of health and safety. In this respect, we ask that if you see anything that worries you, appears to be hazardous or in need of maintenance around the club house or track, to inform one of the coaches or volunteers as soon as possible, and if you can help to rectify the problem that would be much appreciated.
We thank you for taking the time to read this. Please come and talk to us if you wish to volunteer some of your time or have any questions or concerns.
